California repeatedly warned about spiking gas prices, fragile supply. But fixes never came. Now prices are at $6 per gallon, the nation’s highest in four years.
Cal-ISO, the California Independent System Operator — which tries to keep the state’s power plants from running down while California is in the midst of rolling blackouts — said Californians should brace themselves for more outages. Cal-ISO said it now has 5,400 megawatts offline, with 5,200 gone by late Wednesday night after power plants have run as much as 5,000 MW without interruption.
