He was a celebrity pastor at one of Canada’s biggest megachurches. Inside the sexual abuse allegations that brought down Bruxy Cavey, there’s been plenty of press about how his church is an institutional problem.
The Christian radio personality had his say on the controversy. Here’s an excerpt:
“I think the church needs our prayers and our compassion,” he said. “I will never be able to understand why the church chooses to deal with it, but they do deal with it. They do deal with it, whether they do it right or not.”
In addition to the abuse scandal, the news was just too juicy for the church to ignore.
It wasn’t enough for the church to say, “We will do better.”
They instead had to go a step further and get a little bit more creative.

Bruxy’s church was a lot of fun to cover. One of Canada’s biggest megachurches, with thousands of followers, and at one time, hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in revenue, and a reputation for success.
Bruxy’s churches attracted an influx of money from the church’s very large and very loyal parishioner base that he had built up over the years, and the numbers were only growing.
That was true at the time Bruxy was caught up in the scandal as well. The scandal resulted in his termination as the pastor of the church, and
